Keynote 1.6.5
Keynote is a flexible, multi-featured tabbed notebook, based on Windows standard RichEdit control. It's always accessible with a single keypress, even if you work in another application.
The basic idea in KeyNote is that you can include many separate notes within a single file. This means that you do not need to open several files - for most purposes it is enough to create only one file and hold all your notes inside it. With the addition of the tree-type notes, you now have a three-dimensional notebook: many notes within one file and a multi-level, nested pages within a single note. Optionally, KeyNote can encrypt your data securely using the Blowfish or Idea algorithms. Keynote's interface and behavior are extremely configurable.

JR Screen Ruler
Ever wonder how big that family photo is? Or how big it might be if you cropped out Auntie Jane? No mystery in that when you download JR Screen Ruler from JR Free Tools. There’s nothing to install; just unzip and launch this tiny program to see a resizable ruler you can use to measure anything on screen. You can adjust the size of the ruler itself, rotate it 90 degrees, and set it to display pixels, inches, picas, or centimeters. JR Screen Ruler is a handy gadget for Web designers, product developers, and more.

Wavosaur
Of all the dumb stuff you can find in Windows-and there's a lot of competition-the dumbest is to have only one volume control for every sound that pours out of a PC. For example: It goes without saying that the music of AC/DC is best listened to at decibel levels known to induce psychosis in neighborhood dogs.
So, after a heavy session of AC/DC mp3s, you return to work until-JEEZE! WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? That was an ordinary beep indicating some error-only played at a volume so high at first you think you're being shot at.
MP3 music and Windows event sounds simply can't get along on the same PC-unless you have Wavosaur, a free sound editor that includes a batch operation to lower the volume of all the wave files in a folder by 6dB. Doesn't sound like much at first. You may have to run your event waves through it a couple of times. (Do make backups in case you overdo it.) Wavosaur is so simple to use and works so quickly, in minutes you'll have a respectably decorous set of sounds you could take to a Zamfir concert.
And did I mention that Wavosaur edits, processes, and records sounds, .wav files, and MP3 files? Wavosaur has all you need to edit audio, produce music loops, analyze, record, and batch-convert.

AnyTV
If you are not getting enough entertainment value out of your PC, give AnyTV a shot. In theory, this freebie brings thousands of streaming Internet TV and radio stations from around the globe right to your computer. In practice, your mileage may vary; I wasn’t able to view many stations. But if you find even a few stations or clips you enjoy, you are not out anything to give it a try. AnyTV lets you filter stations a variety of categories (country, channel, genre, bitrate, and so on) as well as save a list of favorites.

OperaTor
Keeping your personal data and surfing habits private is an important concern. This is especially true if you need to use a computer at a library, Internet café, or hotel business center. One way to do that is to surf the Web using OperaTor, a utility that includes (and simultaneously launches) the Opera browser, the Privoxy Web proxy (with advanced filters for guarding your privacy), and The Onion Router (a system for anonymous Internet communication). OperaTor (and its components) need no installer and store no information in the registry, which means you can run it from a USB flash drive. This makes it ideal for surfing at public computers.

IE7Pro
If you want a smart, free add-on for Internet Explorer, download IE7Pro. The free tool has tons of ways to make IE easier to use, with everything available from one button in the Status bar. IE7Pro stomps on banner and Flash ads, effectively removing most from the sites I visited, but has a tougher time removing pop-up ads; in my tests, most pop-ups snuck through like water through a sieve.
But IE7Pro isn't just about ad blocking. The tool has help you don't get in straight-laced IE, such as Super Drag Drop, a way to drag a link to any spot on the page to open a new tab; and Mouse Gestures, a cool feature that lets you scroll, open, close, and navigate through open tabs. There's also a built-in spell checker and a handy recovery feature just in case IE takes a nose dive and crashes.

Spamihilator
Bayesian spam filters are all the rage these days with their ability to calculate the spam probability of mail. One such tool is Spamihilator, which sits quietly in your taskbar tray, intercepting all incoming mail before it gets to your e-mail client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Mozilla, and pretty much any POP3 application). The product has a Recycle bin from which you can retrieve mails that are filtered by mistake, and a training area to help it learn what not to filter in the future. You can also specify friends never to filter, bad guys to always block, and customize what kind of attachments (if any) to permit.

Send To Toys
The lowly yet handy SendTo menu (which appears on the context menu when you right-click a file) makes it simple to do common tasks (like moving a file to a folder or attaching one to an email) without first opening an application. Gabriele Ponti’s Send To Toys gives added power to this menu with handy functions that include a opening a dialog to specify a folder for copying, moving, or creating a shortcut to the selected file, opening the Run box or command prompt window with the selected file or folder on the command line, putting the selected file on the Quick Launch bar or in your Favorites as a shortcut, adding the file’s name and path to the Clipboard, attaching the selected file to an email automatically addressed to a default recipient, and more. Send To Toy’s Control Panel makes it easy to add or remove items from the Send To menu.

CO2 Saver
Keeping your computer in standby or sleep mode is a great way to save energy and lower your electric bill. Unfortunately, Windows sometimes interprets network activity or other signals from peripherals as reasons to keep your system wide awake. To nudge Windows toward the land of nod, try CO2 Saver. The Custom Power Saving dialog of this freeware tool has a checkbox that does just that. It also sits on your desktop and shows you just how much CO2 you (and others) have saved this way. CO2 Saver also includes a configurable Web search bar, which I avoid since it routes search data through Snap’s servers for their own uses.
You can download latest version from http://co2saver.snap.com/

Hazard Shield
Looking for an anti-malware tool with a little something extra? Hazard Shield claims to be a fast antimalware program that can do both manual scans and real-time monitoring for ongoing protection. Hazard Shield definitely completed its scan faster than my normal antispyware program, Webroot Spy Sweeper. What’s more, it found several items that Spy Sweeper appears to have missed. Hazard Shield has a few other nifty features, like the ability to delete those pesky hard-to-remove files that are locked or in use, an uninstaller, and more. Hazard Shield can scan both local network drives.

Androsa FileProtector
Looking for a simple, powerful way to protect files on your PC from prying eyes? Then you'll want this program. It lets you encrypt and password protect any file on your hard disk so that only those with the proper password will be able to read them. It uses powerful encryption algorithms, including AES 256 bit/192 bit/128 bit; TripleDES 192 bit; and DES 64 bit. Passwords can be up to 32 characters in length.
It offers plenty more as well. You can compress the files as you encrypt them, to save on hard disk space. The program will also scramble your entire hard disk, if you want to get rid of all of its data. It's exceedingly easy to use, and it can either run as its own interface or integrate into Windows Explorer.

Folder Guide
One of the more annoying aspects of Windows is the time it takes to navigate to frequently used folders. Try the easy and elegant Folder Guide. You can add your favorite folders in its Settings window, or just right-click a folder in Explorer and choose Add to Folder Guide. Once you’ve set up your list, just right-click in any Explorer window or Open and Save dialog box. Choose your destination from the Folder Guide submenu, and you’re instantly redirected to that folder.

DoubleKiller
There's a good chance that you have more than one copy of many files on your hard drive. And unless you intend the duplication, you're wasting space. DoubleKiller is a free program that can deal with this problem, searching for and alerting you to any files that are in more then one location.
The program doesn't just look at filenames; it compares the filename, size and does a quick scan of the files to find the real duplicates. And once you've found them, you can either delete the files or move them to another location, freeing up the space with a couple of mouse clicks.
However, be careful: on a typical system, this program will find hundreds of duplicates, but that doesn't mean that you should delete all of them: some are useful (such as programs that install files into the Windows directory, but keep a copy in their own directory as well). So, only remove the duplicates you are sure that you don't need. This is the free version: There's also a Pro version which does more sophisticated searching, scans faster, but costs $20.

Restoration
We've all done it: accidentally deleted a vital file a few minutes before an urgent deadline--and then couldn't find it in the Recycle Bin. Fortunately, there's no need to panic, yet.
Restoration is a free program that can scan your hard drive, floppy diskette or USB thumb drive and find files that have been deleted (Windows doesn't actually destroy files that you delete: it just marks the space they occupy as being available). It can then recover any recently deleted files it finds with a single mouse click.
You can filter the results if you know the name of the file you are looking for, which is much easier than wading through the list of the hundreds of deleted files it usually finds (including temporary files, cached Web files, etc).
Restoration doesn't need to be installed to work. Just keep the program on a floppy or an optical disc and pop it into the drive and run it when you need it (This approach also prevents your accidentally overwriting the deleted file). Although the program has not been updated since 2004, it still worked well in my informal tests and it recovered several files that I had deleted without problems.

IPod Access for Windows 4.1
Unlike other iPod applications on the market today iPod Access uses the iPods internal database to show song information.
By using the database, song listings can be displayed instantly, playlist data can be viewed, and songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store can be displayed properly.
Most other applications must fetch song data from each song individually or force the user to sort through multiple folders without the use of ID3 tags, making them extremely slow and incompatible with file formats other than regular MP3s.

YamiPod
YamiPod allows you to manage the content of your iPod without the need to have iTunes installed. You can copy mp3 and AAC files to/from your iPod, import and export playlists, search for songs, remove duplicates, create and edit notes and much more. The program runs completely standalone and can be copied directly to your iPod and run from there. Other features include a built-in music player, lyrics support, iPod information display (owner, serial used space etc.), adding and editing of notes and more.
